What OneLife Chiropractic Does
At OneLife Chiropractic we treat people by aligning their spine with a variety of manipulations. The initial visit consists of a physical exam, a health history review, any necessary x-rays, and if you have a had a recent bone density scan these findings are considered as well. If a patient is discovered to have lower levels of bone density, such as those diagnosed with osteoporosis or osteopenia we note this in their chart and any future treatments are performed in a gentler manner to allow the joints to move in a more productive manner with less pain and inflammation.
In some cases we employ the use of high-velocity cervical adjustments, where the patient relaxes and the doctor proceeds with the adjustment. There are more gentled lower velocity cervical adjustments that can be done, but each is performed on a case-by-case basis, with the specific treatment in mind for that particular individual patient. In many cases our treatments have helped our patients reduce nerve irritation which is often indicated by the presence of headaches.
Benefits of Chiropractic Care in General
Many researchers suggests that chiropractic care can be beneficial. In fact, in a study published in Spine Journal, the researchers evaluated the personal experiences of a sample of192 participants who complained of back-related pain or sciatica, a condition in which a pinched nerve in the lower spine causes leg pain. An overwhelming number of participants in this study (87%) concluded that the treatments were beneficial.
In another study published in the British Medical, 183 participants that presented with neck pain who were randomly assigned to receive treatment that involved either spinal manipulations, physiotherapy (mainly exercise) or care from a general practitioner, which involved primarily counseling, education and prescription drugs. In this study, the participants were required to keep cost diaries for one year. The study found that spinal manipulations were both more effective, and less costly than physiotherapy or care by a general practitioner.
With Regard to Safety Involved In Chiropractic Care
The American Chiropractic Association (ACA) states that neck manipulation procedures are quite safe. Still, any procedure is not without risks, though the risks are extremely low compared to the benefits of successful treatment. If you have any concerns about the safety of any treatment your chiropractor will talk to you about the procedure and provide you with any information you ask. Chiropractors are very concerned for the safety of their patients, but what you may not realize is that the cost of insurance for a chiropractor is much lower than that of a general physician. This is largely due to the fact that chiropractic treatments are less invasive and holistic when compared to the medical and surgical alternatives which have even greater risks associated with them.
